چکیده

Recent trends in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have suggested converging to such being IPv6-based. To this effect, the Internet Engineering Task Force has chartered a Working Group to develop a routing protocol specification, enabling IPv6-based multi-hop Wireless Sensor Networks. This routing protocol, denoted “IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks” (RPL), has been under development for approximately a year, and this paper takes a critical look at the state of advancement hereof: it provides a brief algorithmic description of the protocol, and discusses areas where – in the authors view – further efforts are required in order for the protocol to become a viable candidate for general use in WSNs. Among these areas is the lack of a proper broadcast mechanism. This paper suggests several such broadcast mechanisms, all aiming at (i) exploiting the existing routing state of RPL, while (ii) requiring no additional state maintenance, and studies the performance of RPL and of these suggested mechanisms.

Improving the Performance of RPL Routing Protocol for Internet of Things

The emerging Internet of Things (IoT) connects the physical world to the digital one and composes large networks of smart devices to support various applications. In order to provide a suitable communication in such networks, a reliable routing protocol is needed. In this paper, a modified version of an IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy networks (RPL), which has been standardized by...

Study of Mobility Enhancements for RPL in Convergecast Scenarios

In recent years, mobility support has become an important requirement in various wireless sensor network (WSN) applications. However, due to the strict resource constraints of power, memory, and processing resources in WSNs, routing protocols are mainly designed without considering mobility. Low-Power and Lossy Networks (LLNs) are a special type of WSNs that tolerate data loss. The Routing Prot...

A Comparative Study of the Routing Protocols LOAD and RPL in Low-power and Lossy Networks (LLN)

Routing protocols for sensor networks are often designed with explicit assumptions, serving to simplify design and reduce the necessary energy, processing and communications requirements. IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) is a routing protocol specifically designed for Low power and Lossy Networks (LLN) compliant with the 6LoWPAN protocol. It currently shows up as an ...

Improving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...
